Welcome to Parker! While it’s not my Hometown, it is where I
call Home. I have been associated with the City of Parker since July of 2002,
when I accepted the position of Electric Superintendent. For the next 19 years
I was responsible for keeping the lights on, basically. The job came with
many challenges, including a tornado; Tornado Tuesday, which was one of the
most memorable. But even a tornado couldn’t dampen the spirit of such a
great town. It was inspiring to see neighbors helping neighbors and
through the resiliency of its residents, Parker emerged from the damaged
buildings and trees. The community spirit was stronger than ever.
Through the years I have helped guide various electric
upgrades and created and adhered to a budget. It was a great learning experience.
In 2006 my family purchased an empty lot in the new development called The Meadows
and constructed a new home. Moving to Parker was a very easy decision for
me. Having a daughter, I wanted to give her the best school experience I could,
and Parker School was just the ticket. Having just completed a major
renovation and expansion, the Parker School district is well prepared for
the future. Parker is a thriving community with all the amenities of a
small town. Parker has a great business environment with many businesses
that provide the necessities of life.
Parker has many recreation activities for children.
The town comes to life with multiple opportunities every spring and summer.
Parker has a well-kept park where the city pool is located.
The Parker Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance are well staffed and
have excellent equipment. The volunteers selfishly volunteer their time
to ensure the town is safe and protected. The Turner County Sheriff’s
Office provides police protection services. Every summer the Turner
County Fair brings in all the amenities of a small-town fair, which also
adds to the quality of life. Parker is also home to the newly constructed
Turner County Courthouse.
Since Parker is located on two major State Highways,
it makes travel to area communities very easy. Parker has seen a steady
growth in its population, adding 3-5 houses a year in recent years. The
signs on each end of town say it all; “Life’s a little Bigger in a Small Town”.
I hope that phrase continues to be true for years to come, the people are what
makes the town great!
