Together The Load Is Lighter
I watched the events unfold in Haiti these past few weeks with near disbelief in the amount of tragedy that the Haitian people have endured since their record earthquake. With causalities approaching 200,000 people, this story of destruction and suffering has at times been almost too much to comprehend. As difficult as the situation is to watch from afar, it is undoubtedly 10 times harder to have to endure if you are the person having to live it.
With the above said, I have also been impressed by and proud of my country’s efforts in coming into the situation with massive amounts of people, medical and monetary assistance that will surely help to ease the burden of the Haitian people. It also will give them a chance to start thinking about their future and how they might rebuild their country. This movement of people working together will be essential to the future success of this country.
Fortunately, we don’t have the catastrophic situation in Parker that the people of Haiti have to deal with. That said, we do have something in common with them…..the idea of people working together to improve their circumstances. With that, I’d like to encourage everyone to give some serious thought as to how they can help to make Parker a better place to live. We have many people that have helped in the past, but we need more!
There were lots of great ideas presented at the recent community meeting on ways to improve Parker. However, without the people willing to step up and help make it happen, the ideas will stay just that… ideas. Don’t feel like you can’t make a difference because the fact is you can! Plus, by getting involved you’ll find that you get to meet some pretty neat people along the way.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to help out as much as you’d like in the past, but feel like your circumstances now would allow you to help, please do so. You can start by contacting any PDC board member or the PDC Director of Development, Bret Gardella at (605) 297-4305. We will be happy to show you ways that you can make a difference in Parker.
Working together, the load is lighter…will you help?
