Home or Hometown?

You all know me as the Finance Officer for the City of Parker. What you may not realize is that I also serve as treasurer for the Parker Development Corporation.

Each month you have been reading articles from different PDC board members. This month is my turn and while I am never at a loss for words, I do find this task a challenge. A challenge because of what can I speak to you about that you will find so profound?

Something that comes to mind this time of year is hometown. Or just home. Many of us that live in Parker are not “from” Parker. But we still consider this to be our home. We live, and work here and have great pride in what we do.

Each one of us makes of our hometown what we want. We are involved in many aspects of what makes a great hometown. Whether you decide to volunteer as a fireman, a little league coach, a school board member or sing in your church choir; you have made a conscious decision to give back to your community.

Oftentimes, we get stuck in our daily routine and forget there are challenges out there for all of us. New people arrive in town and need to feel welcomed. Do we extend our hospitality to those people? Do we make them want to embrace Parker as their “hometown”?

All of these things have a direct effect on our economic development. The more we as a community work together, the more we will be able to attract families and businesses to our community

Make the most of Parker. Believe in Parker and you will find it the best “hometown”!

Enjoy this holiday season with family and friends. Merry Christmas and Best wishes for a Prosperous and Happy New Year!
