Economic Development
Parker, South Dakota takes an active role in helping to improve existing businesses and attracting new businesses to our area. The Parker Development Corp. administers low interest loans to start-up businesses or current businesses that want to expand in Parker.
A $350,000 community block grant provided by the state of South Dakota helped Parker attract a Wisconsin based business, ten years ago, which now employs 35 people. Parker Filter Division, which was the first business to benefit from the low interest loans, paid its loan in full. Currently eight businesses have borrowed over $216,000, which shows that Parker is growing and improving its economy.
The Parker Economic Development Corp. is comprised of a ten person volunteer board that employs one full time position to administer loans and oversee the town’s development and future growth. The PDC is also actively involved in planning a housing development, called the Meadows, to attract families to Parker. And it’s working to complete the Multigenerational Center, which is a 12,000 square foot multi-use center for citizens of all ages in Parker to enjoy.
